Business Description

Finnriver is an organic farm, orchard and craft cidery located along a salmon stream in the Chimacum Valley on the north Olympic Peninsula of Washington— the traditional and contemporary territories of the S’Klallam (Nəxʷsƛ̕áy̕əm̕) and the Chemakum (Aqokúlo or Čə́məq̓əm).

While our farm is remote, we're honored to be on the forefront of the Pacific Northwest hard cider revival and to craft ciders that both recognize historic hard cider traditions from around the world, and offer fresh perspectives on the possibilities of the fermented apple. We grow and source organic, wild harvested, and seasonal ingredients to help grow a vibrant regional community food system.

We seek to create deep-rooted and fruitful connections at our farm-based gathering space at our Cider Garden, open year-round with cider on draft, seasonal tours & tastings, live music, local food, seasonal events and celebrations.

Over the 15 years since we started farming in this community, multiple branches of the Finnriver family tree have sprouted. Finnriver Farm & Cidery grows, sources and ferments organic apples & pears into a line of farmcrafted hard ciders and fruit wines. Chimacum Valley Grainery grows and mills organic grains and produces local flours, pastas, and baked goods. And Stellar J Farms, located at the original home farm, grows organic fruit and veggies.

Our mission is to celebrate the beauty and bounty of the earth, to reconnect people to the land that sustains us and to grow community!

Finnriver's farm and orchard is Certified Organic and Salmon Safe and the Cidery is also a Certified B Corporation, seeking to do business as if people and place matter.

Our Mission

Our mission is to celebrate the beauty and bounty of the earth, to reconnect people to the land that sustains us and to grow community!

We are striving to create deep-rooted and fruitful connections to the land we farm and to the living community as a whole. We seek to "serve the land with cider" by earnestly pursuing our vision of a thriving food culture and a vibrant rural farm community. We are committed to growing our business in a way that balances people, planet, and profit, allowing us to care for our land, support our community, and sustain our craft.

Since Finnriver started in 2010, we have set out to show how rural economic development, land and resource conservation, and sustainable agriculture could converge and thrive. We are grateful to be part of the agricultural heritage in the Chimacum Valley and remain dedicated to the social, economic, and ecological vitality of our place.

Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

Serving the land with cider means committing to organic agriculture practices and production methods, powered by renewable energy. Finnriver farms and ferments on 50 acres of organic farm and orchard in Chimacum, along a restored salmon stream on the north Olympic Peninsula of Washington. We are proud to have been at the forefront of the Pacific Northwest hard cider revival, crafting ciders that honor tradition while embracing innovation and a strong sense of purpose. We are a Washington State Certified Organic Farm, Salmon Safe Certified, and a Slow Food awardee, working to preserve the genetic diversity and cultural heritage of heirloom apple varieties. Our sustainability practices include:

  • Certified Organic Farm & Orchard: With over 6,500 trees, 20+ varieties of heirloom and traditional cider apple varieties, we feed our organic orchard with compost from our own kitchen and the pomace from pressing.
  • Cider made with 100% organic fruit: In addition to growing our own organically grown fruit, we source organic apples from small-scale farms across Washington state
  • Salmon Safe Certified: With a salmon creek at the back of our orchard, we support salmon habitat restoration efforts with North Olympic Salmon Coalition
  • Slow Food Awardee: In our Cider Garden we source local, organic food whenever possible and serve farmcrafted cider fermented on site.
  • Land conservation through permanent easements with Jefferson Land Trust, protecting our working soils as farmland in perpetuity.
  • Solar Power: We have installed hundreds of solar panels at Finnriver that covers approximately 60-70% of our electrical use. Sunlight makes the apples sweet, generates plenty of green power, and keeps the lights on!
  • Sustainable production methods including low-chemical cleaning systems and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Bottle & Box Reuse Program: Cider lovers can now return bottles and boxes directly to the farm, or at local farmers markets.
  • Packaging that uses FSC-certified paper for labels and label backing that is recyclable
